This workshop is designed to build a foundation of understanding for beginning work with a stock dog. There are a lot of moving parts when training a dog to herd sheep or other livestock! You've got an enthusiastic dog, you've got marginally psychotic sheep crashing into your shins, and you've got an instructor yelling directions from the sidelines! Yes it's fun, but what a mess!! In this class you will learn what herding looks like by jumping in with both feet and herding a flock of sheep around. Then once you've seen what that takes you will have an opportunity to test your own dog's skills. Lastly, you will work a trained dog on stock By doing this we will teach you to begin to see and feel what herding really is. You will find out what instinct really looks like, and find out if your dog has any. This is a safety first class! Sheep safety will be safeguarded at all costs!! There will be a great deal of laughter, maybe a little chaos, and a ton of great information delivered in an easy to understand manner. All herding breeds and mixes welcome! This is a one-day 4-5 hour class that will prepare you to jump into herding! Bring a crate for your dog, sturdy shoes, a sense of adventure, your camera, a 6' leash that you don't mind stepping on, water and snacks for you and your dog. This class is held at our Ranch Location. Detailed directions will be provided for all participants. You must be in communication with instructor prior to class start date! Current Class dates are: Sunday December 17th at 9 am and Saturday January 7th at 9 am. You should be able to book through the website, but if not contact me and I'll see why it isn't working. You may pay via website using a credit card, or day of using cash or check (we do not take credit cards in person)
